Experience the incredible Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail on an incredible 8 day adventure. Being New Zealand’s longest continuous cycle trail, you will enjoy a magical journey starting from the Southern Alps through to the historic coastal town of Oamaru. This adventure is a bucket list experience for cycle tourists!
On your arrival in Twizel you will be met by The Jollie Biker and transferred to your accommodation. After a bike induction and a chat about the upcoming week, the evening is yours. Perhaps ride around town to familiarise yourself with your bikes.
Dinner tonight is your own arrangement. We are happy to offer recommendations and to make reservations for you.
After a hearty breakfast at a local Twizel Café, where you will also collect your lunch packs, you will be shuttled to Aoraki/Mt Cook to the Whitehorse Campground, the official start of the A2O. From here, you’ll have an 8km warm up ride to Mt Cook Airport for your helicopter transfer across to Tasman Point. This is an amazing way to start your ride on the A2O. A short 27km ride brings you to Braemar Station, where you will spend a magical evening on this Iconic High-Country station. Enjoy a dinner tonight at Braemar Station.
After breakfast, (lunch packs will also be prepared for you) cycle from Braemar Station along Hayman Rd to the Pukaki foreshore trail, one of the most stunning rides on the trail, then crossing the Pukaki Flats, you arrive back in Twizel returning to your first night’s accommodation.

Enjoy another great breakfast at a local café and lunch packs to fuel you up for the ride to Lake Ohau. Following the Hydro canals to Ohau Weir and then a great ride along the Ohau Lake foreshore, to Lake Ohau Lodge. Your accommodation tonight is at the Lake Ohau Ski Lodge, situated on the shores of the lake taking in views on Ben Ohau ranges and Mt Cook in the distance.
Another great dinner awaits you tonight.
Full breakfast is included this morning as well as lunch packs. Today you will ride over the Tarnbrae Saddle. Maybe stop for a picnic at the old woolshed before your ride along Quailburn Rd and into Omarama. This afternoon a wonderful soak in the Omarama Hot Tubs are your reward after your days ride. Accommodation tonight is at a local Motel.
Dinner is your own choice tonight.
Ride to The Wrinkly Rams café for Breakfast to fuel you up for the day ahead and collect your lunch packs, then follow the trail out of town. Ride along the foreshore of Lake Benmore and up to Benmore Dam, alongside Lake Aviemore, crossing the wall of the Aviemore Dam, then making your way into the town of Kurow. Accommodation tonight is in a local B&B and includes a delightful homemade dinner. Maybe enjoy a stroll to Ostler Wines to sample some excellent local wines.
Enjoy an in-house breakfast, collect your lunch packs and you’re on your way. Today is an easier day, winding your way through the Kurow vineyards following the Waitaki River. Pass by a Maori Rock Art site, then through scenic wetlands and into the sleepy town of Duntroon.
Tonight is spent at the recently renovated Duntroon Hotel, with dinner included.
Fuel up with breakfast, take your lunch packs and enjoy todays diverse ride. Star off cycling through unique rock formations that make up part of the Waitaki Whitestone Geopark. Off road trails take you through several farms to Island Cliff, which is surrounded by limestone escarpments. You’ll end up in the Botanical Gardens of Oamaru and on to Friendly Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The Jollie Biker will meet you at the end of the trail and take you to your accommodation in Oamaru.
