Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to be a shark? To propel through the water at breakneck speed but at the same time be able to jump like a dolphin? I kid you not, for all you adrenalin junkies like me that love to give anything a go, this is an experience that ticks all the boxes.
The Hydro Attack is the world’s first commercial operation of its kind and is known as a seabreacher watercraft started by locals David Lynott, Lee Excell and Oliver O’Neill.
I got the experience of a lifetime to sit in the back seat of this engineering masterpiece and zip through the majestic waters of Queenstown’s Lake Wakatipu on a crisp but clear April Morning. I was loaded into the back seat and awaited with anticipation as my driver prepared the craft for take-off. After a gentle ride through the harbour we were off at up to speeds of 80km/hr twisting and turning as we made waves through the ice blue coloured water. After 5 minutes or so of twists and turns we opened the hatch for a quick breather and admire the scenery around us before the manoeuvre that was about to put a smile on my dial for the rest of the year. We submerged at least 6 feet below the surface which gave the impression that we were on a mini submarine before finally launching the nose of the boat 18 feet into the air and plunging back into the lake. Wow!!!
I invite you to check out my video of the Hydro Attack and my priceless facial expressions and must say that this certainly is a Must Do while visiting Queenstown on any New Zealand Tour.
Prices are $175 for a 20 minute jaunt and we recommend booking in advance by calling 0508 493 762
