You’ve decided that you want to choose the luxurious route instead of the standard tour package for your New Zealand trip.

Great!

But, do you know what to expect? What do you need to do next?

No worries; our guide today will cover the 5 tips that you need to know before your New Zealand luxury travel package.

Let’s get on with it!

1) Always follow your instructor and don’t buy ski equipment yet.

A New Zealand tour is always going to include ski trips (you’re wasting your time if you don’t have one!) and with luxury packages, you’ll be escorted to more exclusive and secluded areas.

It is important to always follow what your instructor says; skiing is fun but you have to be aware of dangerous situations particularly if you are a beginner.

We know you want to have fun but get the basics down first by spending a few hours on practising before you go out skiing.

You should always borrow or rent ski equipment if you have not tried skiing before. If you find out that skiing is not for you after your trip, you would have saved yourself a good sum of money.

It’s OK to borrow ski wear from your friends or family however you should buy ski thermals and socks for reasons of hygiene.

2) Get fit and exercise regularly before the trip

You will hike and walk across the most beautiful walking trails and mountains but it is not easy as a walk along the beach.

You have access to premier walking trails in luxury tours which can be mildly intense. Hence, it is best to be in good shape as the hikes take up to 4 hours in some cases.

For instance, you will need a few days to complete any one of the Great Walks!

Don’t be discouraged by the effort needed to complete these hikes, though; you will be rewarded with the most beautiful and inspiring sceneries of your life at the end of the day.

A large part of individuals who have completed these hikes come back every year as there’s nowhere else that you will find an experience as amazing as this.

You don’t have to go through extreme fitness regimes to prepare for the hikes; regular jogs and light weight-training will be more than enough.

3) Get your cameras and smartphones ready

The sights and sounds that you’ll encounter in New Zealand will be one of the best experiences of your life.

From the epic peak of Franz Josef Glacier to the stunning views of Milford Sound, there are plenty of opportunities for you take photographs that capture the awe and significance of the moment.

If you are a not a fan of technology, that’s fine but we recommend that you take home at least a few photos of your trip. You can ask your tour guide to help take photos and videos of your adventures.

For the teens and young adults, New Zealand has tons of wonderful views that decorate your social media channels well.

Christchurch is one of the most photographed destinations in the world and it’s easy to see why; the city has a unique and endearing feel to it. You definitely do not want to miss out on that!

We also recommend getting a power bank (portable mobile phone charger) so that your phone does not run out of battery along the way; missing the chance to take an amazing photo is not a good feeling.

4) Pack thermal wear and clothing to keep you warm

If you are visiting New Zealand (especially if it’s the winter season), you should bring adequate clothing to keep you warm.

The mountains that you will be hiking are cold and you don’t want to catch frostbite along the way. Thermal wear, scarves, and jackets are essentials and you should make sure you have them packed before you go on your trip.

Here’s a checklist for you:

  • Thermal innerwear and underwear
  • Sweaters
  • Jackets
  • Coats
  • Lightweight socks
  • Boots
  • Scarves
  • Gloves
  • Hats
  • Lotion and lip balms (chapstick)
  • Portable first aid kit

The list above is not complete but it covers the essentials that will keep you warm and comfortable.

If you are bringing toddlers and kids along with you, it is a good idea to bring more warm clothing just in case.

5) Have fun and don’t take yourself too seriously

New Zealand is home to wonderful natural habitats, amazing sights, memorable activities, and more importantly, extremely friendly people.

Thus, you should visit the island with one goal only: to have fun!

Treat the island like a second home and bask yourself in the local culture even if you are on a luxury tour.

You will be charmed by the cheerful and infectious personalities of New Zealanders wherever you go.

Did we also mention that the food in New Zealand is amazing?

New Zealanders are proud of their desserts like no one else. Don’t forget to try the pavlova and hokey-pokey ice creams.

If you are not a fan of sweet things (you have to give it a try, though!), the seafood in the island is top-notch. From mussels to world-class salmon, good food is the last thing you should worry about.

From skydiving to bungy jumps, New Zealand is the place to go to overcome your fears and achieve your travelling goals.
